Anthony is a two-month-old baby boy from Kenya. Shortly after his birth, he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. His head was growing at an alarming rate, and his eyes frequently rolled backwards. Concerned and frightened by these sudden changes, his mother, who is raising Anthony by herself, rushed him to the nearest health center for medical attention.
Anthony has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Anthony has been experiencing an increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Anthony will experience severe physical and developmental delays.
Anthony was referred to our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Kijabe Hospital, where it was determined that he needed surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $719 to cover the cost of surgery for Anthony that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on December 4th and will drain the excess fluid from Anthony’s brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Anthony will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy.
Anthony’s mother shared, “When the doctors told me Anthony had hydrocephalus, my world stopped. I may be raising him alone without his father around, but I refuse to give up on my son. All I want is a chance for him to grow up healthy and have a future.”
