Before having eye problems, Samai was a rice farmer. She is 56, has nine children, and nine grandchildren. “Samai traveled 5 hours to CSC for the free surgery,” our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), tells us.
At CSC, Samai was diagnosed with pterygium in both eyes. This is a growth of the conjunctiva that occurs often when people spend too much time outside. “Samai’s vision started to blur 2 years ago,” her doctors say. “Aside from the blurred vision, the pterygiums in her eyes are painful and cause tearing and irritation. She has had to stop working as a rice farmer and cannot cook or care for her family.”
Removing the growths in Samai’s eyes will cost $150 and she’ll need our help to cover the costs. Let’s raise the money that will supper her being able to work outside on the rice farm again and care for her family.
