Rahab is a small businesswoman and mother of three children. Rahab sadly lost her husband in 2005 and has been raising her children on her own. Rahab works as a clothes vendor and her income cannot to cover her required medical treatments. Rahab has been relying on National Health Insurance Fund to cover costs, but her support request has been pending for weeks now, but the care she needs is urgent.
For six months, Rahab has been experiencing abdominal swelling that she has mistaken for weight gain until it became painful. Rahab had an MRI done at a hospital revealing that she had pleural effusion and a growth in the ovary. Rahab was immediately referred to Kijabe hospital for further treatment where she was diagnosed with a left ovarian mass. Doctors recommended surgery to remove the mass and a hysterectomy, in which surgeons will remove her uterus helping to ensure any potential risk doesn’t spread.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Rahab raise $1,260 to fund this surgery. On January 3rd, Rahab will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner’s care center. Once recovered, Rahab will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain and without the worry that she carries now.
Rahab shared, “My stomach keeps increasing in size and it is very uncomfortable. I need this treatment to stop the stomach discomfort and pains.”
