Kulwa is a 12-year-old student from Tanzania. Kulwa is a hardworking boy who takes pride in helping his father, a food crop farmer, and is cheerful and expressive. Kulwa enjoys taking leadership roles and making sure everything in the house is in order. He dreams of completing his education and helping support his family. Kulwa has a twin brother who was also born with the same condition.
Kulwa was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus, which means his legs bow outward at the knee so that they cannot touch. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $810 to fund treatment for Kulwa. The procedure is scheduled to take place on December 3rd at our medical partner’s care center, Kafika House. Treatment should restore Kulwa’s mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications.
Kulwa says, “I want for me and my brother to get better so that we can grow up happy and helpful.”
