Choy is a 38-year-old mother of three from Cambodia. She lives in rural Ratanakiri province with her husband and their three children, all of whom are students in a nearby school. Both Chey and her husband work as cashew farmers to support the family. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children, listening to music, and watching TV.
In July 2025, Choy fractured her hand in a motorbike accident after swerving to avoid a dog on the road. Since the accident, her left hand has remained painful and difficult to use. This limits her ability to help on the farm, and carry out her daily household activities.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On October 1st, Choy will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $600. The treatment will relieve her pain and restore function in her hand, allowing her to return to work, take care of her family, and manage her daily activities more easily.
Choy’s husband said, “I hope that my wife’s condition will improve, and she will no longer have pain.”

Choy and her husband traveled 10 hours by local minibus to reach the Children’s Surgical Centre for a consultation after hearing about free care available to Cambodians with disabilities. The fracture repair procedure will repair Choy’s unhealed bone, restore function to her left hand, and reduce her pain. Surgeons are hopeful that, after her recovery, she will be able to manage daily tasks she previously struggled with, such as cooking, cleaning, caring for her children, and working on the farm. Choy is looking forward to regaining her independence in daily life and being able to support her family more effectively.
Choy said, “I am happy because my hand will be better. I can use it more, and I believe soon I will be able to work on the farm again without pain.”
