Godfrey is a 45-year-old father of three children from Uganda. He enjoys praying and is an active member in his church choir. Godfrey is a plumber, but when it became too hard to find enough plumbing jobs due to living far from town, he turned to farming. He and his wife grow food crops for home consumption and sell the surplus to generate income for the family.
While lifting his father, who is suffering from a stroke, Godfrey felt a sharp, painful, spear-like sensation in his abdomen. Since then, life has changed drastically. He experiences pain when lifting heavy items, cannot walk long distances, and often notices a hard, intermittent swelling above his umbilicus, especially when in pain.
Godfrey was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia and recommended for a herniorrhaphy. Fortunately, on November 4th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $230 to fund Godfrey’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Godfrey says, “At home, I no longer do anything and yet am the sole provider to my family. I appeal to you for support because I believe that with surgery, I will get better and will continue working hard to keep up with my family and children.”
