Amelia is a 40-year-old mother of four children, from Uganda. She is a small-scale farmer who cultivates her small piece of land to provide food and meet the basic needs of her household. Although life has never been easy, she has always faced challenges with courage and determination, believing that through hard work she could give her children a better future.
Amelia first noticed a painful swelling in a sensitive area about eight months ago. The swelling gradually increased in size and became increasingly painful over time. Amelia found it increasingly difficult to perform the physically demanding activities required for farming. Walking long distances, bending while working in the farm, lifting heavy loads, and even sitting comfortably became challenging. She sought treatment from several health centers and faithfully followed the advice and medications she was given, hoping to regain her health.
When her condition failed to improve, a close friend encouraged her to seek specialized care at our medical partner’s care center, Rushoroza Hospital. There, she was diagnosed with cervical fibroids, and the surgical team recommended polypectomy as the most appropriate treatment. Without the recommended surgery, she will continue to experience persistent pain and discomfort, limiting her ability to work, care for her children, and support her family.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. On September 1st, surgeons at Rushoroza Hospital will remove the mass. Now, Amelia needs help to raise $261 to fund this procedure.
Amelia says, “For more than 10 months, I have lived with constant pain because of this swelling. I visited different health centers hoping to find treatment, but my condition never improved. A friend encouraged me to come to Rushoroza Hospital, where the doctors finally discovered the cause of my illness and told me that surgery is the only treatment that can restore my health. Unfortunately, I cannot afford the surgery cost. I humbly appeal to donors to help me receive this surgery. Your kindness will free me from pain, allow me to care for my children again, and give my family renewed hope.”
