Edda is a three-month-old baby girl from Kenya. She was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of her condition, Edda has been experiencing an increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Edda will experience severe physical and developmental delays.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $719 to cover the cost of surgery for Edda that will treat her hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on January 14th and will drain the excess fluid from Edda’s brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve her quality of life. With proper treatment, Edda will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young girl.
“There were moments when I felt completely overwhelmed, especially when others questioned my child’s worth. But I placed my fears in God’s hands, and today I live with hope, believing that Edda’s life has purpose and that her future will be bright,” Edda’s mother shared.

Since Eddah’s successful hydrocephalus surgery, she has been doing well. Having endured two previous procedures, her mother can tell that Eddah’s health is improving. Life at home has already begun to change. Eddah is now able to sleep more comfortably for longer stretches, allowing her mother to also get some rest. The size of Eddah’s head is also slowly getting smaller, and her sunken eyes are no longer as apparent. The clinic report confirms that Eddah is on the path to recovery. With continued care, there is growing hope that Eddah will reach her developmental milestones, be able to play, learn, and attend school alongside other children her age.
“This surgery was an answered prayer for us… a miracle, even,” Eddah’s mother says, her smile stretching wide with gratitude. “My daughter’s journey to recovery would not have been possible without your support. My heart is glad.”
