Sheryl is 12 years old and a student from Kenya. “Nine years ago, my neighbor told me just to let her grow like that and that it would correct itself,” Sheryl’s mom recalled with sadness. The mother of five first noticed Sheryl’s legs bowing when she turned one. Her little girl’s legs curved outward at the knees, making it hard to walk and run. When she asked for advice, everyone told her it was normal and would fix itself with time. Years passed, but nothing changed. As Sheryl grew older, her bowed legs became more severe and noticeable.
Sheryl was referred to our medical partner’s care center, AIC Cure International Hospital, for specialized care. She is scheduled to undergo surgery on September 17th to correct her condition and improve her quality of life. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,224 to cover the cost of Sheryl’s procedure and care.
“I want to dress like a girl, walk confidently, interact with other girls, and continue with my education normally without any challenge,” said Sheryl.
