Many years ago, 66-year-old Wenceslao lost his right arm below the elbow in an explosion. He received a functioning prosthetic arm decades ago, but it has since stopped functioning and has become ill-fitting. Now, his prosthetic arm causes more pain than it provides utility.
Wenceslao hopes to be fitted for a new, fully functioning prosthetic arm that will allow him to get back to work and do chores around the house again.
For $940, we can help Wenceslao get fitted for a replacement prosthetic allowing him to return to his work.

Wenceslao received a replacement prosthetic to allow him to return to work.
Dr. Peter Rohloff, the Medical Director at our partner Wuqu’ Kawok, says of Wenceslao’s prosthetic:
“What we didn’t at first appreciate about Wenceslao is that this device really does mean the difference between making a living or not. He’s a fisherman, and as he has told us, it’s impossible to fish with one hand! He’s grateful for the new arm, and he told us he is excited to get back to fishing.”
After working with Watsi on several prosthetic replacement cases like Wenceslao’s, Dr. Rohloff is enthusiastic about the help being provided and the difference it can make in somebody’s life.
“This service is so valuable to the patients as they all basically have the same story - injury in the past, fitted with a prosthetic that worked for a few years and then broke, and now disability due to lack of access to another arm,” he said. “We hope the arms we are using will overcome a lot of this, due to the fact that they are adjustable and can be easily refitted as the body changes.”
