“For one year, Nang has lived with a cyst in her right eye,” writes our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC).
A cyst is a closed sac containing air, fluid, or semi-solid tissue that can develop almost anywhere in or on the body. For Nang, the size and location of the cyst in her eye has affected her appearance and vision. “She has become shy with her friends and she has trouble getting around because of her blurred vision,” CSC continues.
Nang is 38 years old and lives in Cambodia. She works in a garment factory to support herself and also sends money home to her family. In her free time, she enjoys listening to Khmer (Cambodian) romantic music.
For $99, Nang can get surgery to remove the cyst from her right eye. Funding for Nang’s treatment also includes a one-day hospital stay and three follow-up appointments after discharge. CSC explains that, after the procedure, Nang “will no longer have a cyst and have better vision.”
