George is a 13-year-old boy from Uganda. He is very sweet and shy, letting his mother answer questions for him. He is the second-born in a family of four and has three sisters. As George is unsure what he wants to do when he grows up, his mother shared her hopes that he’ll become a teacher, a profession she wished she could have pursued herself. George enjoys doing home chores like helping his mother with cooking and fetching firewood and water. He also likes reading by himself in his free time.
For four years, George has had epigastric hernia. He experiences abdominal swelling and pain after eating, lifting a heavy object, and standing or sitting for long periods. Due to financial constraints, his parents have not been able to take him to the hospital for medical intervention before but have always given him local herbs. When his symptoms became severe, his family brought him to our medical partner’s hospital, where, on December 28th, George will undergo hernia repair surgery at the care center.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $230 to fund George’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
George’s mother says, “I hope he will get better when operated on and regain his health back after surgery.”
