Grace is a 63-year-old farmer from Uganda and a devoted mother of 13 children—four sons and nine daughters. Widowed many years ago, Grace supports her family through small-scale farming, which allows her to provide food for her children and sell any surplus.
For the past 11 years, Grace has experienced on-and-off swelling due to a bilateral inguinal hernia. She has visited several hospitals, but was only given painkillers as she could not afford further care. As a result, she continued living with the swelling, which has significantly affected her daily life. She experiences pain while working, cannot walk long distances, and often feels very weak. Grace also tried using local herbs, but her condition worsened. Eventually, Grace visited our medical partner’s care center, Rwibaale Health Center, where she finally received a diagnosis.
On October 7th, she will undergo hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $234 to fund Grace’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently.
Grace says, “I hope to get well soon and resume my duties of farming after recovery.”
