Meet Mol, a 24-year-old university student from Cambodia who enjoys reading books about business and listening to pop songs.
“About five months ago, Mol fell an estimated five meters from a tree and broke her femoral neck,” says our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). When she was able to seek medical care for her injury, she learned that she needs an operation. As a full-time student with a part-time job, Mol does not have enough money to pay for the surgery.
The femoral neck is the top portion of the thigh bone (femur), just below the ball-shaped end that connects to the pelvis to form the hip joint. Mol’s injury—a femoral neck fracture—requires a procedure known as open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) to reposition and set the broken bone.
With $405 in funding, Mol will undergo surgery to repair her femur. Funding also pays for two weeks of hospital care and five days of post-operative care, including physiotherapy. CSC tells us that, after surgery, “Mol will have a healed hip and will eventually be able to walk on her own power.”
Let’s help fund surgery for Mol!
