Savy is a 65-year-old retired soldier, living with his wife and eldest daughter. He has one son, two daughters, and nine grandchildren. Savy shared with us that now that he is retired, he likes to listen to the news on the radio.
One year ago, Savy developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision and sensitivity to light. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and because of his impaired vision, he is insecure about going places on his own.
When Savy learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled across the country for seven and a half hours to seek treatment. On June 8th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in his right eye. After recovery, Savy will be able to see clearly, and to go out on his own without concern. Children’s Surgical Centre is requesting $253 to fund this procedure for Savy.
Savy says: “I hope my eye can see well after surgery - I want to help my daughter around the house.”
