Aisha is a wife and a mother of nine children from Tanzania. All of her children except for two are married and raising their own families. For many years, Aisha used to run a small business selling vegetables and rice. It is through the little that she was earning as well through sales, as well as the extra support from her husband who used to be a driver, that they were able to raise their nine children.
For the last two years, Aisha has been feeling pain on her knees, especially the right knee. Aisha received painkillers that have been helping, but now the pain has become unbearable. She limps when she walks and she is unable to squat. The condition has forced Aisha to quit her business. Now that her husband is retired as well, she relies on her children to look after her.
Aisha needs financial support so that surgery can be done to allow her to walk properly again and without feeling pain on her knees. With $960, Aisha will have her right knee replaced with an artificial joint. This surgery will allow her to move free from pain and regain some of her independence.
