Chhukroth is a 42-year-old rice and potato farmer, married with two sons and one daughter. In her free time, she enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio and watching Thai dramas on TV.
Three years ago, Chhukroth developed a pterygium in each eye. Since then, she has suffered from blurred vision, constant burning, and tearing and can’t see clearly or do work well. Chhukroth traveled three hours with her daughter to reach Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Center, for treatment.
For $148 in surgical costs, eye surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Center will remove the growth from each eye and utilize tissue from other parts of the eye to fill the space. This surgery will relieve Chhukroth of all pain, burning, tearing, and irritation.
Our support will allow Chhukroth to watch her Thai dramas again!

Chhukroth successfully received vision-restoring surgery.
Three years ago, 42-year-old Chhukroth from Cambodia developed a pterygium in each eye. While the growths are benign, they have caused Chhukroth headaches, burning, and tearing, and for the past three years she has not been able to see clearly.
After Chhukroth and her daughter traveled three hours to the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), she successfully received surgery to remove the pterygium growths in both of her eyes! The surgery was a success; she is in much less pain now and the tearing has completely stopped. With time, her symptoms will continue to lessen and her vision will continue to improve.
“I look better and I can see comfortably,” says Chhukroth. “I can do work easily and go anywhere outside now.”
