Phionah is a 40-year-old woman from Uganda who runs a small business selling fried chips along the road. She has four children - one son and three daughters – and is expecting her fifth child soon. Growing up in a big, extended family, Phionah’s parents could not afford her school fees beyond Primary 4, so she left school to help her parents with farming until she married at age sixteen. Phionah is now separated and took custody of her children. Her children are in school, and Phionah works tirelessly running her business to provide for her children’s education.
Phionah is expecting her fifth child and has been attending antenatal care. Her doctors recommended that she deliver via a cesarean section in order to ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Phionah undergo a C-section on April 15th. AMH is requesting $252 to fund this procedure.
Phiona said, “This happened unexpectedly, but now that it’s here, I have no option but to look for ways to overcome it. I come to you seeking support; otherwise, I see nowhere else to get money to pay for my surgery.”
