Kenawaka is a playful and cheerful 15-month-old boy from Ethiopia, who enjoys spending time with his older sister. He lives with his parents and sister in a rented home. His father works as an accountant to support the family, while his mother is a homemaker. Kenawaka's mother first noticed that something was different when she took Kenawaka to the hospital for circumcision. After examining him, the doctor told them that he would need specialized assessment and treatment, and referred them to a public referral hospital in the capital city. Following the referral, Kenawaka's parents waited another year due to a long surgical wait list. Though they were increasingly anxious, they could not afford care in a private facility so they continued hoping that they would be attended to soon. Recently, the referral hospital informed Kenawaka's parents to bring him to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). Kenawaka was diagnosed with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of future complications. Fortunately, Kenawaka is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on September 25th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,293 to cover the cost of his procedure and care. Kenawaka's father said, “Thank you so much to everyone at BethanyKids. We are truly grateful to all the staff for their kindness and care. We love our son so much, and our greatest wish is to see him healthy and happy after his surgery.”

Zewditu is a 42-year-old mother of six from Ethiopia, who is a devoted wife and home maker. Her husband works as a day laborer, earning just enough money to provide food and shelter for the family. About four years ago, Zewditu developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her reduced eye sight and cloudy vision. The condition has made daily tasks like cooking and caring for her children much more difficult. Zewditu needs to undergo surgery to restore her sight, and be able to perform her daily activities with ease. Fortunately, our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is helping Zewditu receive treatment. On July 12th, she will undergo cataract surgery where surgeons will remove and replace the blurred lens. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, Zewditu needs help to raise $150 to fund this procedure. She says: "I hope to be able to handle my household tasks with ease again, and embrace my role as a mother with newfound energy."

Jeremia is an 11-month-old baby boy. He is the only child in his family and lives with both parents, who work as pastoralists. They keep cattle and occasionally cultivate maize during the farming season to support their family. Jeremia has clubfoot on both feet, a congenital condition in which feet are twisted inward. Without appropriate treatment, this condition can make walking difficult and affect his ability to wear regular shoes comfortably as he grows. When Jeremia was born, his parents were unaware that medical treatment could help correct the position of his feet. Hope came when the Kafika House outreach team visited their village and identified Jeremia as a child who could benefit from treatment. For his parents, this discovery opened the door to an opportunity they had not previously known was available. Following an assessment, Jeremia has been scheduled to begin clubfoot treatment on October 20th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $341 to fund Jeremia's clubfoot repair.
