Sroen is an elderly rice farmer from Kandal province. He is 70 years old, has one daughter, two sons, and five grandchildren. Ten years ago, his wife passed away due to a lung problem. Now, he lives with his older sister. Because of his vision disability, he rarely goes outside alone, but likes to go to the pagoda or listen to monk prayers on the radio.
Three years ago, Sroen developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurry vision, difficulty seeing at night, and fading colors. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own.
When Sroen learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 13th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. His family can contribute $50 to his care, but needs your help to raise $213 more for this procedure.
Sroen said: “I will be happy to see well so I can help my family on the farm. I want to go outside by myself and take care of my sister.”
