Jux is a four-year-old boy from Tanzania. He is the firstborn child in a family of five children and lives with his parents and siblings. Both of his parents are farmers who grow crops to provide food for their family and sell the surplus at the market to meet their household needs.
Jux was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus. He was brought to our medical partner’s care center, Kafika House, by his mother after she noticed that both of his legs were becoming bowed. The condition began when he started walking at one year of age and has gradually affected his mobility, with the right leg more severely affected than the left. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. The condition causes discomfort when walking and is associated with pain and easy fatigue, making it difficult for him to move freely and participate fully in activities with other children.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $695 to fund treatment for Jux. The procedure is scheduled to take place on August 31st. Treatment will hopefully restore Jux’s mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications.
“We are thankful that Kafika House found our son. We hope this treatment will help him walk better and enjoy playing with other children,” said Jux’s parents.
