Petronilla is a 12-year-old student who lives in Kenya with her grandmother. Despite the many challenges she has faced, she remains a cheerful and outgoing girl who is determined to work hard and build a brighter future for herself.
When Petronilla was about four years old, her legs began to bow outward at the knees, causing significant pain and mobility difficulties. Her family spent all their savings on corrective surgery, which successfully straightened her legs. Shortly afterward, tragedy struck when Petronilla lost both of her parents, leaving her without the emotional support she so desperately needed.
As she grew older, her legs gradually began to bow again, and the pain and mobility challenges returned. Walking to school became increasingly difficult, and she grew more withdrawn as she struggled with comments from other children.
Petronilla is scheduled to undergo surgery on September 16th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,224 to cover the cost of Petronilla’s procedure and care. The surgery is expected to restore Petronilla’s mobility, reduce her pain, and improve her quality of life.
Petronilla shared, “I am looking forward to a day when I will walk confidently, continue with my studies, and live a normal life just like other children.”
