“Phinehas is seven weeks old, and the last-born in a family of two children,” says our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “His family lives in a two-room rental house in the Eastern region of Kenya. Phinehas’ father is a cook at a local supermarket while his mother is a trained teacher working on a casual basis at a local school.”
“Phinehas was born seven weeks ago with an increased head size,” AMHF continues. “He seemed to be very irritable even when well fed and cared for. The doctors ordered an MRI and that is when they realized that baby Phinehas has a brain tumor.”
Phinehas needs a craniotomy to remove his brain tumor, and allow him to grow and develop normally. The procedure will cost $1260. This cost also includes Phinehas’ hospital stay, medication, and pre- and post-operative expenses. After surgery, Phinehas will no longer experience intra-cranial pressure, and will have a longer and better quality of life.
Phinehas’ parents have a daily average income of $10. “They are not able to meet the financial cost of their son’s treatment,” AMHF tells us. “If not treated soon, the tumor will continue to put pressure on Phinehas’ brain and this could result in brain damage and or death.”
“Our strength is depleted but I trust God to take charge of everything,” shares Phinehas’ father. “We pray that this treatment will be successful and our son will recover.”
