Amos is a 7-year-old student and shared that his best subjects are mathematics and Swahili. When Amos was a toddler his parents separated. As a result, he and his younger sibling were left in the care of his father, while his mother re-married. At four-years-old however, Amos’ father tragically passed away in a car accident, ultimately leaving him in the care of his grandmother. Over the December holidays, Amos’s mother went to visit him at his grandmother’s, and found that Amos was struggling to walk because of a condition in his left foot. Amos’s mother was hurt to see her son having difficulties, and decided to seek treatment for him at a local hospital where they were then referred to our medical partner’s care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre (ALMC).
Amos has clubfoot in his left foot. Clubfoot is a congenital musculoskeletal condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes Amos to have a great amount of difficulty walking and wearing shoes. Amos will need surgery to repair his condition. His mother works as a primary school teacher and cannot raise the funds needed to cover Amos’s treatment.
On January 11th, Amos will have surgery to repair his clubfoot at Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $935 to fund Amos’s clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk with comfort, wear shoes, and go back to excelling in school.
Amos’s mother says, “I felt hurt seeing my son disabled due to his foot.”
