Kim Y is a 28-year-old woman from Cambodia. She lives in Phnom Penh with her older sister, who is a garment worker. Her younger sister takes care of their mother in the province. Kim Y works in a small business in Phnom Penh. When she is free from work, she likes to cook her favorite food and exercise with her friends.
About two months ago, Kim Y developed a chalazion, a type of inflamed cyst, in her right eyelid, causing swelling, burning, itchiness, and irritation. She feels self-conscious about her eye’s appearance and avoids making eye contact. It is difficult for her to see clearly and work.
Kim Y traveled to seek treatment from our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. On July 29th surgeons will remove the cyst through a chalazion excision procedure. After recovery, Kim Y’s sight and symptoms should improve. Kim Y is able to contribute $60 for her medical care but she needs help raising $150 more to fund this procedure.
Kim Y shared: “I hope after surgery my eyelid will not be swollen and I won’t worry about it anymore.”
