Lovely is a 21-year-old high school graduate who lives in Haiti with her mother, who works in a bakery. She loves to sing in the church choir and listen to music, and has dreams of attending college. Amongst her many friends, Lovely is very cheerful and outgoing.
Lovely was born with congenital mitral regurgitation, meaning that her mitral valve was not fully formed and as a result cannot adequately pump blood through her body. Her symptoms, which include shortness of breath, fatigue, and swelling, have been getting worse over time, and she is now too sick to continue with her studies or her daily activities.
Surgeons hope to be able to repair Lovely’s valve without needing to replace it with an artificial substitute. If they are successful, her repaired valve should last her for life with no need for further surgical treatment. She needs help affording the treatment but is grateful for any support. Lovely says, “I am so thankful to everyone who is helping me. I look forward to making many new friends!” For $1,500 we can make sure Lovely has the funds to pay for the surgical repair she needs to keep her heart healthy, putting her back on her path to follow her dreams.
