Patrick is a six-year-old young boy from Kenya. Patrick’s life changed in an instant in February 2026 when he was severely burned by hot water at home. His mother was heating the water to bathe Patrick and his younger brother and stepped outside briefly to unhang clothes. While she was away, Patrick tried to switch off the coil heater, but the bucket tipped over, spilling the boiling water onto both boys.
After several clinic visits and assessments, Patrick underwent two successful surgeries in August. He underwent a contracture release to improve the movement of his hand. His hand was also temporarily attached to his abdomen to promote healing and allow the damaged tissue to recover. Patrick now needs another surgery to separate his hand from his abdomen and perform a skin graft.
Fortunately our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Patrick receive treatment. On September 2nd, surgeons will perform a debridement and skin graft procedure to help complete the healing process. Now, Patrick and his family need help raising $1,185 to fund the procedure.
This surgery is another step towards Patrick regaining the use of his hand, returning to school, and reclaiming the childhood that was interrupted by the accident. Patrick’s mother is seeking support to help her son receive the surgery he needs. With this support, Patrick can continue his journey toward healing and have another chance to hold a pencil, return to school, and experience the simple joys of childhood once again.
Patrick said, “I miss school and playing with my friends. I want my hand to heal so I can go back.”
