Dan is a jovial young boy from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He and his family currently live in Burundi. Dan dreams of becoming a mechanic, inspired by his grandfather, who is also a mechanic.
Dan has a misalignment of his legs. He has diplegic cerebral palsy. A condition that has significantly affected his mobility and made it difficult for him to walk like other children. His greatest desire is to improve his walking, continue with his education, and one day pursue his dream of becoming a mechanic.
For Dan’s mother, seeing her son improve has always been her greatest wish. A housewife who fled Congo with her family because of war, she has faced many challenges in her journey to secure a better future for her child. Despite these difficulties, she has remained hopeful and determined to find the treatment her son needs.
Dan’s family was referred to our medical partner’s care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. Dan and his mother travelled more than 1,341 kilometres from Burundi to seek treatment.
Dan is scheduled to undergo surgery on September 2nd to correct this condition and improve his quality of life. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,224 to cover the cost of Dan’s procedure and care.
“Sometimes, my friends laugh at me when they see me struggle to walk. It makes me sad, but deep inside, I still hold on to hope. I believe that one day I will rise, walk like them, play football, and live a normal life,” Dan shared.
