Srey Nich is a 22-year-old mother of two from Cambodia. She is married and lives in Siem Reap Province with her husband, who works at a rice mill. They have two children; her first child attends kindergarten, and her youngest child is two years old. In her free time, she takes care of household chores and enjoys listening to music. On the 20th of February 2025, Srey Nich was involved in a motorcycle traffic accident that caused a right femur fracture and an open fracture of her right tibia. After the accident, doctors repaired her right femur with a metal plate and screws. Her right tibia was initially stabilized with an external fixator, which was later replaced with a metal plate and screws. She also received a skin graft to help treat the wound on her right tibia. Although her femur and tibia fractures have healed, she developed a chronic infection around the hardware in her right tibia. She has persistent pus discharge from the wound on the inner side of her right lower leg and a fixed ankle deformity that keeps her foot in a pointed position. This affects her ability to walk normally and makes daily activities and caring for her children more difficult. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 5th, Srey Nich will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will help control the infection, support proper healing, and improve her ability to walk and perform daily activities more comfortably. Her family can contribute $50, but needs help raising $328 more to fund her procedure and care. Srey Nich said, “I hope this surgery will heal the infection and improve my leg so I can walk more easily, become more independent, and return to my normal daily activities.”

Ly Huor is an 18-month-old boy from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Speu Province with his twin brother and his aunt, who is a rice farmer. His parents work in garment factories in the city. He enjoys playing with toys alongside his brother. During Khmer New Year 2026, Ly Huor accidentally spilled hot water on his right hand, causing burns to his third and fourth fingers. The burns healed with scar contractures, limiting the movement of his fingers and making it difficult for him to grasp and hold objects. His family is worried that the condition could affect his hand development and make it difficult for him to hold a pencil when he starts school. When Ly Huor's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 15th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve the movement of his fingers, helping him develop normal hand function so he can grasp objects, play, and learn more easily as he grows. Now, he needs help to fund this $652 procedure. Ly Huor's mother said, “It has been hard to see my son struggle to use his hand. I hope this surgery will improve his finger movement so he can grow, learn, and enjoy childhood like other children.”

Hory is an 80-year-old man and a retired rice farmer from Cambodia. He is a widower, and he has one son, three daughters, and five grandchildren. He currently lives with his oldest daughter, who is a housewife. His favorite hobbies are listening to the radio, praying with monks, and attending religious ceremonies. Hory has had a cataract in his right eye for the past three years. This causes itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. When Hory learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On September 3rd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $263 procedure. Hory shared, "I hope that after the surgery, my vision will improve so that I can see more clearly and go outside more easily. I hope to grow some vegetables around the house and participate in religious ceremonies more comfortably."
