Masumbuko is a one-month-old boy from Tanzania, and the youngest of nine children. He has a lesion on his back which is leaking cerebral spinal fluid. The doctors who submitted his profile to Watsi write, “If not treated, the lesion will soon cause sepsis, endangering Masumbuko’s life.”
“He was conceived unexpectedly and Masumbuko’s mother had a difficult pregnancy,” his doctors continue. “She was often sick and worried because she thought she was too old to be giving birth.” His parents are small-scale farmers with a large family to look after. Their income from farming is not enough to cover the cost of their family’s daily needs as well as the medical bill for Masumbuko’s operation.
“We have had a very rough time ever since the conception of our son. All we need now is for him to get well and have normal growth. We are worried for his life and badly need help,” says Masumbuko’s mother.
For $1,025, we can pay for Masumbuko to receive the operation he needs. His doctors expect that with treatment, “Masumbuko will heal from the constant fever that he’s been having, the cerebral spinal fluid will stop leaking from his back, he will feed well, and have a better chance of surviving and continuing with normal growth.”
