61-year-old Aweza lives in Malawi. She has three children aged 41, 30 and 21 respectively. She tries to get work where she can to support herself, and also grades groundnut seeds at a Burundian house and sells the groundnut flour. Aweza receives help from her daughters, who are all married and supportive. She stays with her last born child and her son in-law.
Aweza noticed a lump, situated above her umbilical area, which caused her pain. Then, four months ago, Aweza was diagnosed with an epigastric hernia. Aweza’s condition has interfered with her daily activities, and has reduced her capital, which has been used for her hospital visits. She requires surgery in order to address her condition - surgery she cannot afford.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is here to help Aweza access the care that she needs. On June 11th, Aweza will undergo hernia repair surgery at Partners in Hope Medical Center. Our medical partner is requesting $575 to fund her care, which should enable Aweza to live, free from her current discomfort.
“I just want to get better to continue supporting myself and my children through my small business,” said Aweza.
