Yu is a 21-month-old toddler from Cambodia. He lives with his grandparents in Kampong Cham province. After his parents divorced, his mom moved to Phnom Penh with her younger sister to find higher-paying work. She is currently employed as a saleswoman for a local retail shop. Yu loves drinking milk and eating rice soup.
Yu was born with syndactyly of his right hand. This means that his 2nd to 5th fingers are fused together, making it difficult for him to use his hand. Yu has some function in his right hand for tasks like eating and playing. However, the fusion of his fingers affects his ability to use his hand fully as he grows and eventually starts school.
Fortunately, on February 10th, surgeons will perform a syndactyly repair procedure to separate and release the fused digits. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $444 to fund this procedure. After surgery, the fingers will be separated, allowing him to move them independently.
Yu’s mother shared, “I hope to see him be able to use his hand more easily and be able to start school without problems.”
