Koemlin lives in Battambang province with his parents and two younger siblings. His father works in construction, and his mother manages the household. Both of his siblings are currently in high school. Koemlin left school in the 6th grade to work as a musician, helping to support his family. In his free time, he enjoys playing the drums with his team.
On March 3, 2024, Koemlin was involved in a motor vehicle accident with a tractor-pulled cart that caused a deep laceration on his left hand. He received treatment at a provincial hospital, undergoing bone fracture and wound repairs. Unfortunately, three months later, he is experiencing stiffness in all fingers on his left hand, reduced sensation in his thumb, index, and middle fingers, as well as limited range of motion and wrist pain.
Koemlin was referred by a public hospital to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). He and his father traveled for two and a half hours to seek treatment. On June 21st, surgeons at CSC will perform a nerve and tendon procedure to improve the function of his hand. Koemlin and his family are able to contribute $100 but need help to raise $472 more to fund his procedure and post-op care.
Koemlin said, “I hope I can use my hand and move my fingers to play the drums when I recover.”
