“I am aware that the treatment my son needs is very expensive and necessary. I will do my best to provide care to him but I do not have money,” says Anderson’s father.
Anderson is a one-year-old boy from Haiti. He lives with his three siblings and hardworking parents. Anderson’s father is a bricklayer, depending on causal jobs around the neighborhood to provide for his family.
After his birth, Anderson’s father noticed something was not right and took him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus causes enlarged head size, intra cranial pressure, and “sun-setting” eyes. “He does not sleep, he cries a lot, and sometimes he has fever and vomits,” explains Anderson’s mother. Without treatment, Anderson is likely to suffer blindness, brain damage, and death.
Anderson needs a shunt incision, a $1260 procedure our partners at Project Medishare say, “will cancel the possibilities of Anderson dying of hydrocephalus but increase his chances to be healthy and allow him to have a good childhood.”
