Rabecca is a single mother of two children from Malawi. She works as a household helper and sometimes she gets support from her daughter who does business selling firewood. Rabecca likes chatting with children and enjoys eating nsima, a local porrdige, served with fresh fish. For four years, Rabecca has been experiencing a growing lower abdominal distention which was easily mistaken for pregnancy and was associated with pain and dizziness. This affected her day-to-day activities, reducing her income. She visited our medical partner's care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center, and a scan was done. Rabecca was diagnosed with uterine fibroids and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,363 to fund Rabecca's surgery. On August 21st, she will undergo gynecological surgery, and once recovered, Rabecca will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Rabecca said, “I will be a very happy woman after going through surgery to get rid of the disturbing symptoms for me to concentrate on my job as a maid and continue supporting my children as a single mother.”

Adeleicar is an 18-month-old girl who lives with her mother in Haiti. Adeleicar has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain, and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of her condition, the circumference of Adeleicar's head has been increasing. Without treatment, she will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $897 to cover the cost of surgery for Adeleicar at Hospital Bernard Mevs, the only facility in the country where this care is currently available. The procedure, during which excess fluid will be drained from Adeleicar's brain, is scheduled to take place on June 7th. With the reduction in her intracranial pressure, Adeleicar's quality of life will improve, and she will have the chance to develop into a strong, healthy young girl. Adeleicar's mother is looking forward to her daughter being able to walk and talk, and to live a long and healthy life.

Rhona Kristine is a hardworking 23-year-old from the Philippines. She works as an office staff at a private school. Her mother and older sister are unable to work due to sickness, so her income and her father's income must sustain their family, but they shared they are barely able to cover their expenses. Since Rhona Kristine's condition was diagnosed, she has been persistently seeking medical treatment so that she can heal and continue to work to support her family. Two years ago, her neighbor noticed a growing lump on her neck. Aside from the mass continuing to grow, Rhona Kristine did not experience symptoms relating to her condition. Upon visiting the hospital, she was diagnosed with nodular non-toxic goiter and informed she needed surgery to prevent her symptoms from worsening. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Rhona Kristine receive treatment. She will undergo a thyroidectomy on August 28th. During the procedure, surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation is supporting a portion of the cost of her treatment, and WSFP is raising the remaining $935 to cover the cost of Rhona Kristine's procedure and care. Rhona Kristine said, "The possibility of a free operation will make me and my family really happy, so I am grateful to the people and donors who will make this possible for me. This will not only help me, but also my family, especially since my father and I are the only ones working. Thank you very much."
