Two-week-old David is the last-born in a family of two children. The family lives in a two room rental house in central Kenya. David’s father works as a milk distributor in their locality while his mother is a stay at home mom.
The excitement of having an addition in the family was saddened by the news that their son has hydrocephalus–a condition in which one has excess fluid in the head, impacting pressure on the brain and causing progressive increase in head circumference. Besides this condition, David was found to have jaundice, which has already been treated. A shunt is urgently required to save David from the effects of hydrocephalus.
Having exhausted their funds during David’s prior treatment, his parents are not able to raise the funds required for his next round of surgical care. David’s father was thrilled to learn about Watsi. He calls it an answered prayer for his family.
“You do not know how much Watsi’s willingness to help my son meant. It was like music to my ears and I am really touched. I hope to one day help someone feel what I have felt,” shares David’s father.
