Gech is a 19-month-old girl from Cambodia. She has two older brothers who are both in school. Her mother runs a small hair salon at home in Prey Veng province, while her father works in Korea at a food factory and sends money home to support the family. Her mother shared that Gech enjoys drinking milk and loves eating rice with sour soup.
Eight months ago, Gech accidentally burned her 3rd, 4th, and 5th fingers by putting her right hand in a pot of boiling water. Her mother took her to a local private clinic, where the staff applied a dressing to protect her burn wounds. Now, burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around her burn, causing her fingers to bend and completely fuse.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is helping Gech receive surgery. On February 11th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve her ability to grasp objects and prevent further complications. Now, she needs help to fund this $495 procedure.
Gech’s mother said: “I hope Gech can use her hand easily after this operation.”
