Mouykeang is a four-year-old child from Kandal province in Cambodia, near the border with Vietnam. She is an only child and lives with her parents and grandparents. Mouykeang's father works as a truck driver, while her mother is a homemaker. Her grandparents stay at home as well, raising frogs in a pond behind the house. Mouykeang is currently in kindergarten and enjoys English class. She enjoys watching cartoons and loves eating rice with a fried egg on top. Mouykeang and her father came to Children's Surgical Centre to seek treatment for a bone condition affecting her left leg. She had received surgery at another hospital in December 2023 to treat an infection, and a second surgery in February this year when the infection recurred. Because her condition has been difficult to manage, Mouykeang was sent to our medical partner's care centre, Children’s Surgical Centre, for further care. There, she was found to have a leg bone that didn't heal properly after a fracture, along with an infection in that area. On August 14th, Mouykeang will undergo surgery on her left shinbone, and surgeons will also affix an external frame to help support her recovery. Mouykeang and her family are able to contribute $100 towards the cost of her treatment and need help raising $369 more to fund the procedure. Mouykeang's father says, "I hope she will be able to walk comfortably and grow up happy and free of pain."

Mich is a grandmother from Kampong Cham province in Cambodia. She is 63 years old, and she and her husband have two daughters, two sons, and one grandchild. Her husband was a rice farmer, but he can no longer work in the fields, so their children support them financially. Mich occasionally makes Khmer cakes to sell from a mobile cart in their village for supplemental income. At home, she enjoys listening to Buddhist monks pray on the radio. About three years ago, Mich developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Mich often spends time alone at home because she is unable to go outside in the bright sun. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Mich learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On August 9th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly and regain her independence. Mich's family is able to contribute $100 for her medical care but needs help to raise $153 more for the procedure. Mich said: "After surgery, I hope to see better, go outside, and cook for my grandchild."

Meet Sikuzani, a one-month-old baby girl from Tanzania. Sikuzani was born with bilateral clubfoot, where both her feet are twisted and out of shape. Without treatment, Sikuzani will have challenges with crawling, walking, playing, and wearing shoes. Sikuzani was referred to our medical partner's care center, Kafika House, for treatment and care. On September 13th, Sikuzani will start manipulation and casting to correct both feet. However, her parents are unable to afford her treatment and are seeking assistance. The treatment will cost $341 and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, needs your help. Sikuzani’s mother says: “Please help with my daughter’s treatment because this is new to us, and we would love to see her live a good life.”
