Huoy is a 56-year-old single woman from Kandal province. She previously worked as a rice farmer but has stopped farming. Huoy currently lives with her niece, who works as a tailor. She likes to participate in ceremonies and visit the pagoda. About two years ago, Huoy developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Huoy learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On July 9th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $263 procedure. Huoy said, "I hope that after my surgery, my eyesight will improve so that I can go out more easily, help my niece care for her children, and do household chores independently. I also hope to live without worrying about my eye condition anymore."

Sakrorny is a 10-year-old third grader from Cambodia. He lives with his grandmother, a 60-year-old rice farmer, while his parents do labor work abroad to support the family. He has two younger siblings who live with his parents. He enjoys writing and reading, and in his free time, he likes playing football with his friends and eating fried chicken. In the future, he hopes to work in a big factory. In January, Sakrorny fell off a bike after hitting a stone on the road and injured his left leg. The following day, he developed swelling and pain and became unable to walk. X-rays revealed a bone fragment in his left leg, and he underwent surgery to remove it along with antibiotic cement spacer treatment. After surgery, he regained the ability to walk, although he still experiences some mild pain. He is now scheduled for a follow-up procedure to remove the spacer and undergo bone grafting to support further healing. Fortunately, on April 23rd, our medical partner, the Children's Surgical Centre, will assist Sakrorny in undergoing this procedure. This surgery will cost $600, and Sakrorny needs your support to fund the surgery. Sakrorny's aunt said, “After the first surgery, I was relieved that he could walk again, but it still worries me that he has some pain. I hope with time and proper care, he will fully recover, walk without pain, and live a normal, active life like other children.”

Chanthy is a 34-year-old garment factory worker from Cambodia. He is married and lives in Phnom Penh with his wife, who also works in a garment factory, and their three children. Their children are in Grade 5, Grade 2, and preschool, and are cared for by their grandmother while both parents are at work. Despite his disability, he continues working hard to support his family. In his free time, he enjoys designing and tailoring new styles of clothing. Chanthy developed polio during childhood, which caused permanent damage to his left leg. Over the years, his left knee became permanently bent, and his left foot developed a severe deformity. The leg is now nonfunctional, so he has chosen amputation to prepare for a prosthetic leg that will give him a better chance of walking independently again. The condition has greatly limited his mobility and independence. He relies on crutches to move around because his left leg is no longer functional, making it difficult to stand, walk long distances, continue working comfortably, and care for his family. Every day tasks require extra effort, and his quality of life has been significantly affected. Chanthy has been experiencing severe muscle wasting, weakness, a fixed deformity of the left foot, difficulty walking, and limited mobility. His doctors recommend an amputation of his left leg (through-knee amputation) to prevent symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $588 to fund Chanthy's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. Chanthy said, “I hope this surgery will allow me to receive a prosthetic leg so I can walk more easily without relying on crutches. I want to become more independent, continue working, and improve my quality of life.”
