Theara is a clever four-year-old boy from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and younger brother in Prey Veng province. His mom and dad work in construction, while his grandmother cares for him during the day. Theara’s favorite things are playing with toy cars and eating fried eggs.
Three weeks ago, Theara’s grandma noticed he put something from the garden in his nose. She was not able to find the object and assumed he would be fine. Unfortunately, since then Theara has been complaining of pain and has difficulty breathing through his nose.
Fortunately, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. Theara and his family traveled to CSC’s care center to receive treatment. On August 16th, surgeons at our CSC’s care center will remove the mass from his nose. Theara is able to contribute $37.50 to his care, and CSC is requesting the remaining $273 to fund this procedure.
His grandmother shared, “I hope my grandson can not be in pain anymore. I want him to go home and be happy to play with his friends and family.”

Theara underwent a mass removal surgery so he can play with his friends.
Theara’s parents traveled for four hours to get help for their son. As the object could not be removed directly, Theara was taken to the operating room, where the foreign object was removed from his nose under anesthesia. The doctors needed to work quickly, as Theara’s nasal passage had become infected, and his breathing was becoming partially blocked. Without removal, the object in his nose could continue to cause problems with his breathing or swallowing. Theara’s parents are relieved he has been cured and thankful to return home with antibiotics to clear up the infection. They will watch Theara for any further signs of inflammation and return if he has a fever or the pain does not disappear after taking the medication.
Theara’s grandmother said: “Thank you to the team of doctors who treated my grandson for relief. We are very grateful for the good care at CSC for children.”
