Thy Cheng is a 37-year-old mother from Cambodia. She lives with her husband and three children in rural Koh Krong province, near the border with Thailand. Her husband works in construction, while Thy Cheng sells fish in the local market. While at home, she likes gardening and spending time with her kids. When she was a toddler, Thy Cheng had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, an abnormal collection of skin cells, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Thy Cheng has been experiencing hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear discharge. It is difficult for her to communicate with people, and she is unable to work full-time due to frequent discomfort. Thy Cheng traveled to our medical partner's care center, Children's Surgical Centre, to receive treatment. On May 2nd, she will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure to remove the cholesteatoma. Thy Cheng is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of her treatment, and needs help raising $826 more to fund the procedure. Thy Cheng says, "I hope that my hearing will improve, so I can communicate better with my family and my customers."

Mostafa is a 25-year-old restaurant promoter. He lives in Phnom Penh with his mother and three siblings. His mother runs a street cart selling drinks, and his siblings help support the family in other jobs. When he's not working, Mostafa enjoys playing soccer, and spending time with his brothers. In mid-December, Mostafa was in a motorbike accident, and dislocated his left elbow. Right after the accident, he sought treatment at a nearby clinic, but his arm has not yet healed. He is in chronic pain, and has limited function in his left arm due to stiffness. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On January 15th, Mostafa will undergo a fracture repair procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, which will cost $483. This surgery will enable Mostafa to regain the full use of his arm. Mostafa shared: "I hope I can use my arm like before the accident, so I can work and drive my motorbike more easily."

Soty is a 25-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He lives with his wife and two young children in Svay Rieng province. His wife works in a nearby clothing factory. Soty and his wife rely on grandparents to look after their children during the day. When Soty is home in the evening, he spends his free time tending to his cows and pigs in his backyard. Raising farm animals provides additional financial security during unemployment from construction. Six years ago, Soty was in a motorcycle accident and fractured his left wrist. He went to a local clinic in Phnom Penh where he underwent an open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) procedure with a plate and screws to keep the healing fracture in alignment. His fracture has healed, but he continues to have a nagging ache in his wrist. As a result, his ability to lift heavy objects in his construction work is limited. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 7th, Soty will undergo a hardware removal procedure that will improve the strength of his wrist to manage heavy objects at work. Soty is able to contribute $100 but needs your help to raise $204 more to fund this procedure. Soty said, "After surgery, I hope to lift heavy objects again and work hard to support my wife and our sons."
