Meet 54-year-old Srey from Cambodia. “Srey spends her free time sewing clothes,” reports our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). “Her nephew needs to take care of her because she can’t see anything clearly.”
Srey has mature cataracts, or a clouding of the lens that results in a significant loss of vision in both eyes. “Srey cannot see everything clearly since developing mature cataracts one month ago. She is partially blind,” explains CSC. She has difficulty doing any work by herself and is concerned that her condition will eventually lead to complete blindness.
With $225 in funding, Srey can receive an operation to remove her cataracts and fully restore her vision. This cost includes surgical supplies, meals in the hospital, pre and post-operative consultation with medical staff, and medication.
“She will be able to see clearly again and regain some independence, once her cataracts are removed,” CSC adds. “She wants to see everything clearly again so she can do work well and sew clothes like before.”
