Kimhuor is 18 years old and a hardworking waiter from Cambodia. He lives on the outskirts of Phnom Penh with his parents, who work as cleaners at a company. He is the eldest of four siblings, and his younger siblings are still students. Because of the family’s financial situation, he stopped studying in Grade 10 and started working as a waiter to help support the family. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and playing games on his phone. Five days ago, Kimhuor was involved in a traffic accident with a car that was driving in the opposite direction, causing a closed fracture of his left tibial plateau. Since the accident, he has experienced significant pain and difficulty walking independently. Because of his injury, he cannot go to work. After the accident, he was taken to a private clinic, where an X-ray confirmed the fracture. The doctors advised him to undergo surgery, but his family could not afford the cost. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On March 11th, Kimhuor will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will repair the fracture, stabilize his leg, and help him walk easily again. His family can contribute $100, but needs help raising the remaining $500 to fund his surgery and care. Kimhuor said, "I am very grateful for the support that allows me to receive this treatment. After the surgery, I hope my leg will heal so I can walk normally, return to my work, and earn some money to support my family."

Toma is a 54-year-old elderly man, who lives with his wife, son and grandchildren in rural Takeo Province in Cambodia. His wife stays at home caring for the grandchildren, while his son works as a rice farmer. The family has a simple rural lifestyle with low income and relies mainly on farming and family support. In his free time, Takeo takes care of his hens, grows vegetables around the house, and lives a quiet village life. In 2024, Takeo was shot in the right hand during an attempted robbery. This resulted in a fracture of his right arm. He went to a government hospital where doctors fixed surgical hardware to help with the healing his fracture. Since the injury and surgery, he has continued to experience pain and discomfort in his right hand. The condition makes it difficult for him to use his hand properly, affecting his ability to perform daily activities and reducing his independence. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On April 21st, Toma will undergo a surgical hardware removal procedure to help reduce his pain and improve hand function, so he can return to his daily activities. Toma and his family are able to contribute towards the cost of his treatment, but need help raising $353 more to fund the procedure. Toma says, “I hope my hand will heal well so I can use it without pain, and return to my normal daily life.”

Catherine is a 62-year-old farmer from Malawi, and a mother of two. She lives alone in a village in rural Lilongwe, with her two children having grown up and now living independently. Life has not been easy this year. With little money to buy fertilizer, her harvest was poor. The crops she managed to grow are only enough to feed her, with nothing left to sell for income. Still, she continued working because she has no one else to depend on for her daily needs. Since January this year, Catherine has been experiencing severe abdominal pain which has made it difficult for her to work, rest, or move comfortably. At first, she thought he condition was gastritis. Even when she sought medical help, she was only given paracetamol to ease the pain, but the relief never lasted. Eventually, she was diagnosed with an epigastric hernia, which is a bulge that occurs in the upper abdomen, caused by tissue pushing through weak abdominal muscle. Presently, the pain has slowed her down, taking away the strength she needs to take care of herself. Full of hope, she went to our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Hospital, where surgery has been recommended to treat her condition. While hearing this gave her hope, the cost of the procedure was far beyond what she could afford. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Catherine receive treatment. On May 13th, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at Nkhoma Hospital. For Catherine, this surgery means more than relief from pain. It means being able to continue caring for herself, tending to her land, and living with independence. Catherine is able to contribute towards the cost of her treatment, but needs help raising $421 to fund the procedure. Catherine says, “If I become too sick to work, there is no one else to help with my daily activities. I have to remain strong so I can continue living and taking care of myself. I am hoping for help because this surgery will give me a chance to live without this pain.”
