Diana is a toddler and the last born child in a family of three children. Diana’s mother sells vegetables at a local market while her father works as a casual on construction sites. Diana was born a healthy child and her growth was on track until she learned to walk. Her parents noticed that her legs were not straight. They thought as she grew, the legs would get stronger and straighter, but that has not been the case. Her legs have continued to worsen, making walking difficult for Diana.
She is a charming and friendly girl who is currently having difficulty walking due to her legs bowing outwards. She walks with a limp and has pain and exhaustion after just a short distance walked. This has affected her play because she does not want to walk much in fear of pain and wants her mother to carry her most of the time. Her parents have not been able to send her to a hospital for any kind of treatment due to financial challenges.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $880 to fund corrective surgery for Diana. Treatment will hopefully restore Diana’s mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications.
Diana’s mother says “She is struggling to walk and complains of pain and exhaustion. We have always wanted to send her to hospital, but our income is not enough. We were directed here by one of our neighbors.”
