Htar is a 39-year-old mother living in Burma. She works as an accountant at a local high school. Her husband lives in Malaysia, where he works in a factory and sends money home to Htar and their daughter when he can.
Although Htar is able to do her work at a desk, it is difficult for her to walk and she often feels fatigued. Doctors diagnosed Htar with a severe cardiac malfunction called tricuspid regurgitation. This condition has made it hard for Htar to take care of her daughter, forcing Htar to send her daughter to live with relatives.
A coronary balloon, if implanted in her heart, could reduce symptoms for Htar and allow doctors to determine further medical treatment. Our medical partners at Burma Border Projects say, “She wants very much to have an operation. She thinks that she will not live very long without an operation – she hopes an operation will extend her life.”
For $1,500 we can make sure Htar can receive this treatment, and improve her long-term health and happiness!

Htar is unfortunately not going to receive the treatment you funded, so we've just sent you a gift card in the amount of your donation.
Unexpectedly, after her medical care was funded on Watsi, Htar’s doctors decided it would be too risky to operate on her heart. Our medical partner, Burma Border Projects, explains, “She has lived with her heart condition for so long that her heart was badly damaged. The doctors deemed the surgery very risky and the chance of her dying during surgery was higher than her dying prematurely, whilst taking prescribed heart medication.”
We are committed to transparently reporting all patient outcomes to you, so it’s important to us that you decide where your money goes next.
We’ve just emailed you a Watsi gift card for the same amount as your donation to Htar. We’d love for you to use this gift card to support another Watsi patient of your choice. But if you do not want to reallocate your donation to another patient, we’ll gladly refund your contribution.
Thanks again for supporting Watsi patients, we can’t tell you how much we appreciate it.
