Doun is an 80-year-old farmer from Cambodia. He has two daughters, six sons, and many grandchildren. Doun lives with his youngest daughter who is a garment worker. Doun enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio.
One year ago, Doun developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision, itching, and tearing. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Doun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and half hours with his son seeking treatment. On November 23rd, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Doun said, “At my old age I would like to see my family well, this is my last wish for my life.”

Doun underwent sight-restoring eye surgery.
Doun traveled to our medical partner CSC so that eye surgeons could treat his cataract and insert an intra-ocular lens. Previously, he was unable to travel anywhere by himself due to his poor eyesight. Doun is now pleased to be able to go to the pagoda by himself, and help with the rice farm. His wife died last year, and his wish to see his children and grandchildren has been granted!
He shared, “I feel happy that I can see better, can go outside, and recognize something well. I can take better care of myself and spend good time with my family.”
