Aliyah is a three-year-old child from Arusha, Tanzania. Her father, a police officer, is the family's primary breadwinner, while her mother sells charcoal to supplement their income. With a large family of five children, they often struggle to make ends meet. Aliyah was diagnosed with unilateral genu valgus or knock knees condition, which makes it difficult for her to walk easily. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards and may cause long-term joint damage. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $631 to fund Aliyah's treatment. The treatment is scheduled to begin on September 25th at Kafika House, our medical partner's care center. This will hopefully restore Aliyah's mobility, allowing her to participate in a variety of activities and greatly decreasing the risk of future medical complications. Aliyah's mother says: "I hope my daughter's treatment is successful, allowing her to grow up without constantly worrying about her legs and how they may affect her future."

Brok is a 60-year-old grandmother. She and her husband are rice farmers from Prey Veng province, three and a half hours from the capital of Phnom Penh. They have two daughters and three young grandchildren. Brok works long hours outside in the bright sun, while one of her daughters stays home to manage the house and watch the children. At home, she enjoys watching Khmer dramas on the television. About a year ago, Brok developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurred vision and difficulty seeing in low or bright light. A cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. This vision loss can make it difficult for older adults to engage in social activities, watch television, or even recognize faces, which can lead to isolation and loneliness. When Brok learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On September 6th, doctors will perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Brok can contribute $50 but needs help to raise $203 more to fund her procedure. Brok said: "I feel bad because it is hard to see when I go out and I can’t go to plant rice. I hope after my operation I can go outside again to help my family."

Socheat is a 29-year-old grocery seller from Cambodia. She lives with her parents and husband in Kampong Chhnang Province. Socheat, her husband, and her parents work full-time to run a grocery store that they own in their hometown. In her free time, Socheat enjoys watching Cambodian dramas and cooking. One year ago, Socheat was in a motorbike accident that resulted in an open fracture of the right femur and a closed fracture of the right tibia. She was sent to a provincial hospital, where she underwent surgery to address the fractures. Unfortunately, her right femur developed an infection, complicating her recovery. Currently, she is unable to walk and relies on a wheelchair. Socheat has worked very few hours since the accident and is working less due to the pain from the infection in her right femur. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 7th, Socheat will undergo a fracture repair procedure that will help improve function and prevent further complications. Socheat and her family are able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $383 more to fund the procedure. Socheat shared that she hopes her leg will no longer be infected, and that she can recover and go back to work.
