Ei is a 15-year-old girl from Karen State, Burma. She lives with her parents and two younger brothers in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand. Ei’s mother works in a wool clothing factory, while her father, who previously suffered from paralysis, helps care for the children. Ei and her two younger brothers are students at a migrant school. The family’s total monthly income is just enough to cover their daily expenses.
Ei developed a cataract in her left eye. She experiences blurred vision and cannot see nearby objects clearly. Her mother feels very anxious about her daughter’s condition and hopes for Ei’s full recovery as soon as possible.
Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund lens replacement surgery for Ei. On April 10th, doctors will perform a lens replacement, during which they will remove Ei’s natural lenses and replace them with an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure.
Ei’s mother expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much to BCMF, all the donors, and every staff member at the hospital for helping with my daughter’s surgery costs. We feel immense happiness because of your support. I would have been helpless without your support, because I could not afford my own daughter’s treatment costs. Your help means so much to our family, which is already facing so many hardships in this foreign country.
Ei added, “I feel nervous about my surgery, because this is my first ever surgery, but I also feel happy for the chance to recover, and I am very grateful to all of you.” After her surgery and complete recovery, Ei plans to continue her education and hopes that once she finishes school, she can find a job to support herself and her family.
