This is Ampaire, an 18-year-old teenager from Uganda. Ampaire has an inguinal hernia on his right side, which causes him pain and discomfort. He experiences difficulty lifting heavy objects.
Ampaire lives with a single mother, who works on a banana plantation. Ampaire has three other siblings, all of whom are in school. Ampaire’s mother spends most of her income on the education of her children. She hopes her children will study well and remain in good health.
An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue or a segment of the intestines bulges through a gap in the groin. Without treatment, Ampaire’s hernia could lead to strangulation of the intestines, thus cutting off blood supply. As it is, Ampaire has already been experiencing pain and swelling on the right side of his groin.
Fortunately, Ampaire is scheduled to undergo a repair surgery on December 21. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund his care.
Of the future, Ampaire says, “I want to work hard and get money for my education.”
