Francis is a 32-year-old farmer from Uganda who is married and has three daughters. Francis grew up in a large family as the oldest child of seven. After completing his studies up to Senior Two, Francis now practices small-scale farming with his wife to provide food and income for their family.
For the past ten years, Francis has had a supraumbilical hernia. The hernia causes recurrent swelling that is sometimes painful. Over time, the hernia has increasingly affected his ability to work, as he finds it difficult to bend and carry out physical activities with ease. Francis is concerned about his family’s wellbeing because his condition has left him feeling weaker over time. Francis also experiences lower abdominal pain, and at times, even walking becomes too difficult.
In search of treatment, Francis visited several clinics where he was prescribed painkillers, but these provided only temporary relief and did not address the underlying problem. He also tried using local herbal remedies, but his condition did not improve. Eventually, a friend advised him to seek medical attention at our medical partner’s hospital, Rwibaale Hospital.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Francis undergo hernia repair surgery on June 9th. Once completed, this procedure will allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. AMH is requesting $234 to fund his procedure.
Francis said, “I hope to get rid of pain and also be able to bend and resume my duties after recovery.”
